Chapter 11. Core and Contributed Modules

Drupal is a content management system; however, it is also a framework with a plug-in architecture that can be extended by modules. In other words, Drupal is like an empty charm bracelet. It holds no meaning until you start adding things that are important to you. The Drupal framework includes instructions on how to attach charms. If charm bracelets aren’t your cup of jewelry, you can also think of modules as the upgrades you order for your new car. (I opted for heated seats—an add-on that makes Canadian winters a little less cold.) Although you can change the transmission on your car and convert an automatic car into a stick shift, it’s often easier to make these decisions ahead of time.
