1 Preparing for Night Photography

For many people, the idea of photographing at night is intimidating. We all have an instinctive fear of the dark. Making the best photographs of the night sky requires getting away from city lights—and all the services cities provide. Some good locations for night photography can be reached by road, but many of the best locations can only be reached by hiking. The prospect of even a short hike at night can be frightening if you’ve never done it before. With the right preparation and equipment, however, your journey into the night can be magical rather than scary.
