Pages should be designed as independent entities. Within a page, any assumption about application state is risky. Even for an assumption that is always true now further revision of the application may render that assumption invalid. A simple renaming of a variable could break any child page accessing that variable directly. Depending on a specific application state, in page code also limits the page's reusability. This means that accessing parent page components from page code should be strictly avoided.
