Chapter 11. Running Desktop Apps

Windows 8 includes two interfaces—the new UI tile interface that greets you when you start Windows, and the familiar Windows desktop. You’ll notice, though, that the Windows 8 desktop doesn’t include the Start menu used in previous versions of Windows. Every program—whether it’s designed for the new Windows 8 UI or for the Windows desktop—can be started from the Start screen. In this chapter, you learn how to find desktop programs, how to add your favorite apps to the Start screen, and how to add programs to the Windows 8 desktop.
