A title tag is the headline of a web site. It appears at the top of your browser on every web page you visit. If you use Internet Explorer, it resides at the very top of your page in the blue bar with the "e" in the upper right-hand corner. And I bet you've never even noticed it before. Well, that's about to change as you will soon learn how important that one little sentence is in winning the search engine game.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Google and other search engines is that they decide how your web site appears on their search engine. On the contrary! Google and other search engines have nothing to do with it. They control where you're placed, but you control how your web site link and its subsequent content appear on their search engine.

When the search engines evaluate your web site, they use your title tag as the blue link that appears when they list your site. They simply take the headline from your web site (way up there in the blue bar) and place it directly in their engine as the link to your web site.
