12.1. The short-term future

We can imagine many uses of the participatory Internet or the Internet of Edges that are only waiting to be multiplied. The first example comes from the participatory Internet between neighbors, in ad hoc mode, to pool sufficient resources to realize a common private Cloud in which data is shared or not. The data can be encrypted to keep the necessary confidentiality while supporting generic applications that can be easily shared between all the partners of the participatory Internet.

For security reasons, companies can protect themselves from cyber-attacks and set up highly personalized information systems. The company’s employees no longer have access to Internet services but only to those services offered internally. Today, there are already a large number of Internet applications in a distributed form, and these will only increase in the coming years. In addition, it is always possible to use Web services that are easily implemented on the participatory Internet.

Smart vehicle networks are also a source of many relatively short-term applications that allow vehicles to simply share resources. This solution allows passengers to share real-time games and to meet at home or the office.

Smart spaces are also an area where the participatory Internet is needed to realize a digital infrastructure with smart infrastructure services and to give the necessary computing and storage power to implement analysis and machine learning algorithms. ...
