Giving Voice to Values in the Economics Classroom

Abstract

This chapter demonstrates the use of Giving Voice to Values (GVV) within the context of real-world issues commonly found in the economics curriculum. It begins with a motivating example to raise ethical awareness when dealing with issues as basic as supply and demand. The use of GVV is then expanded upon through an illustrative case centered on the comparative statics of market equilibrium subsequent to a natural disaster, as applied to Waffle House’s postdisaster menu/pricing policies.
