Before we explore the issues surrounding computer incident response and the many considerations that apply when forming a response team, let's look at how the need for computer incident response teams first emerged. Computer systems have experienced a variety of attacks from both internal and external resources since shortly after the computer was first invented. It was not until the late 1980s, however, that some of these attacks started gaining attention in the media.
