This book is about building an effective software architecture practice within a software development organization. Software architects, and the team or teams into which they are organized, “own” that practice, in the sense that they define, evolve, and maintain an architecture. These architects also own the processes via which the team operates: how work is tracked, change proposals are developed and reviewed, decisions are made, and communication is undertaken. The team may be deliberate and intentional in these actions or simply ad hoc. Either way, they set the documented or de facto processes by which the architecture works.
