Alexandre P. Alves da Silva received a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 1992. Currently, he is a full professor in electrical engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ), Brazil. His research interests include intelligent systems application to power systems. He is a senior member of the IEEE.
