If circuit breakers are used instead of
isolators,
overcurrent relays
which are sensitive to the direction of current flow can be used to
automatically isolate a faulty section. When isolators are used there
will be an interruption of supply to consumers while the fault is
located and the isolators are manually operated.
Reduction of voltage drops and cable losses together with
increased security of supply are achieved by increasing the number
of substations and the degree of interconnection. However, the
expense rapidly increases with complexity and the actual arrange-
ment employed is the best which can be
