Where alternating current is involved the conductor carrying the
current, and hence producing the alternating magnetic flux, is sur-
rounded by the screen. The arrangement is in effect a transformer,
the conductor being the primary and the screen a short circuited
secondary.
The alternating flux induces a voltage in the screen and a current
flows which sets up an opposing magnetic flux. The two fluxes are
