A very simple and naive ATPG algorithm is shown in Algorithm 14.3, in which combinational circuits with fanout structures can be handled.

Note that in an ATPG, the worst-case computational complexity is exponential, because all possible input patterns may have to be tried before a vector is found or that the fault is determined to be undetectable.
