CHAPTER 2 Network Media
The media that carry data make up the basic infrastructure of a network. Connectors provide an access point for data and are attached to the ends of the cables, which are plugged into a network card. This creates a physical link between each device and others on your network. Some cables can carry the data for 100 m or so, while others can span greater distances connecting widely dispersed systems. There are different types of cabling and different types of connectors that may be used.
