Abstract
From healthcare to home automation, IoT and smart devices have transformed several industries offering unprecedented ease and efficiency. Due to fast expansion, security flaws have been discovered making current cyber threats thrive. This chapter explores the IoT ecosystem’s complex security risks and suggest solutions.
The chapter begins with an introduction to IoT and smart devices highlighting the importance of security and outlining the chapter’s scope. It explores the IoT landscape, detailing growth, types, examples, and security challenges. Emerging threats, such as malware, ransomware, device hijacking, data breaches, DDoS attacks, supply chain attacks, insider threats, and physical security risks, are categorized and analyzed. The chapter identifies vulnerabilities, including insecure communication, weak authentication, lack of updates, hardcoded credentials, insufficient encryption, and inadequate access controls.
