Abstract
Technology and digitalization in education have opened up new ways to improve many aspects of education. Blockchain technology is prevalent, which is open and decentralized, and improves education efficiency, security, and transparency. This chapter introduces blockchain technology in education and highlights its usage while anticipating future advances. The essay discusses competency-based education, learning analytics, and blockchain-powered learning platforms and marketplaces. The chapter discusses how these changes may affect educational institutions and stakeholders and their pros and downsides. It also addresses future research challenges, interdisciplinary collaboration, technological integration, scalability, interoperability, and standardization issues. Case studies and exemplars in the chapter demonstrate how blockchain trends might be used in education. The chapter concludes with an assessment of the most significant discoveries, their effects, and the need to accept them to shape education.
