How can you evaluate if a candidate has self-awareness or not and, therefore, self-assessment, when you have no training to assess emotional intelligence?
A few behavioral and situational queries will help you to spot the traits. My strong advice is to start your interview (after building a rapport) with an open-ended question such as:
- As we are interested in knowing your evolution inside your former organization, could you please, walk us through your progression, since you entered in the organization till the current position?
- Follow-up questions:
- How did you adapt to the organizational changes in your former organization?
- How did you feel about the changes?
- What makes you stand out among ...
