Part IV. WAN QoS Design

Part IV of this book provides an in-depth discussion of private-WAN QoS design. QoS considerations and detailed designs are presented for WAN aggregation routers connecting campus networks to various WAN media, such as leased-lines, Frame Relay, ATM and ATM-to-Frame Relay Service-Interworking. Additionally, QoS considerations and designs unique to branch routers are examined, which include using Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR) for known-worm policing. While primarily addressing private-WAN QoS design, many of these recommendations are also applicable to VPN QoS designs (discussed in Part V) where traditional private-WAN media is used for VPN access.
