Human nature is a funny thing. Take smoking, for instance. We know that it’s bad for us, but millions of people continue to smoke. Even in light of the facts that were uncovered during the lawsuits against “Big Tobacco” in the late 1990s, including the findings that they conspired against the public to hide the dangers of smoking, people still smoke. Yes, the number of smokers is down in the United States, but the rest of the world sees the profit in lighting up. Big Tobacco is even taking their message, and their marketing, to the rest of the world (specifically, China).1 Why? Because cigarettes make money—lots of it!2
