3.5. Industrial sector
The industrial sector is one of the largest energy-consuming sectors and consumed about 54% of total world energy in 2012; its energy consumption is expected to grow 1.2% per year between 2012 and 2040 (EIA, 2016; Hasanuzzaman et al., 2012). In 2013, the Malaysian and Swedish industrial sectors consumed about 26.2% and 40%, respectively, of total energy usage by each country (MESH, 2015; SEA, 2018).
This sector can be divided by three different industry categories:
- ❖ energy-intensive manufacturing,
- ❖ nonmanufacturing, and
- ❖ non-energy-intensive manufacturing.
