Richard asked Don if he wouldn't mind joining him for Kyle's interview. Don seemed a bit perplexed, but agreed without question. They then walked next door to the conference room, where Betty and Kyle were seated. Richard began the interview by welcoming Kyle and introducing him to Don. “This is Don Taylor, who, besides his role as marketing director, is the new head of sales, as well, and you'll be his first sales team position interview.”
Don had a big smile on his face and Betty nodded, looking very pleased with the new development.
“Really?” asked Don.
“Without any doubt by me or anyone else,” was Richard's response.
It took a few minutes for Don to settle down a bit and it was a fun few minutes, indeed. Don then kicked into the role: “Well, Kyle, nice to meet you. As you can probably figure out, I do these interviews all the time.” They all laughed, and Don continued: “So, if we all decide that it's a good fit for you to come to work here, you'll be reporting to me.”
Kyle smiled as Don firmly shook his hand. “It's a pleasure to meet you, sir,” he said.
Don patted him on the shoulder and chided him, “Now, let's not get off on the wrong foot, son. You're making me feel like an old man. Just call me Don.”
Laughing, Kyle told Don that he would be honored to do so.
