Integrated Building Systems

Abstract

Buildings directly and indirectly account half or more of energy use. There are many ways to improve efficiency in buildings, by attention to microclimate, site orientation, insulation, passive design techniques, and use of renewables. New systems for ranking buildings, such as BREEAM and LEED, are giving impetus to the construction of sustainable or even “zero net energy” green buildings.
