Selection of processes
19.1 General considerations
A number of vital questions need to be posed before a decision is made about
the manufacturing process to be used for a product.
1 What is the material? The type of material to be used affects the choice of
processing method. Thus, for example, if casting is to be used and the
material has a high melting point then the process must be either sand
casting or investment casting.
2 What is the shape? The shape of the product is generally a vital factor in
determining which type of process can be used. Thus, for example, a
product in the form of a tube could be produced by centrifugal casting ...
