3.1 Alloys
Brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc. Bronze is an alloy of copper and
tin. An
alloy
is a metallic material consisting of an intimate association of two or
more elements. The everyday metallic objects around you will be made almost
invariably from alloys rather than the pure metals themselves. Pure metals do
not always have the appropriate combination of properties needed; alloys can
however be designed to have them.
