In selecting a cast iron for a particular application the following consider-
ations are taken into account:
1 Grey irons - very good machinability and stability. Able to damp out
vibrations, i.e. considered to have a good damping capacity. Excellent
wear resistance due to the graphite giving a self-lubricating effect for
metal-to-metal contacts. Relatively poor tensile strength and ductility, but
