Abstract
Recent trend around the world among the owners of complex engineering systems such as aircraft or oil refinery is to include consideration for the sustainment of the system at the very early stages of system development. These asset intensive organizations are looking for every opportunity to improve their profitability in order to compete. The lean and six sigma project lifecycle approach has been applied extensively hoping to achieve performance gains. However, the potential benefits are counterbalanced by risks of making improvement changes.
