To understand Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS), you first need to know Scrum basics. According to the LeSS Company, which manages the LeSS framework (http://less.works), “Scrum is an empirical-process control development framework in which a cross-functional, self-managing team develops a product in an iterative incremental manner.” (Empirical in this context means that decisions are based less on up-front planning and more on experimentation and measuring outcomes. Cross-functional means a team contains all the people with all the knowledge and skills to create a product. See Chapter 1 for more about Scrum.)
