Centralizing your storage for multiple hosts can have a number of positive effects for many environments. Many centralized storage environments are SANs. Proper planning will have long-lasting positive effects on your installation. And in the planning stage, one of the most critical considerations is what your SAN will be doing. That determines the requirements for performance, total capacity, concurrent access, uptime—even future expansion (another area where thinking in advance is imperative).
