Figure 18-3 adds the concepts of evidence and status to the model. A piece of Evidence is any document, hair fragment, DNA sample, or other substance or object that may have relevance to a Case. To be Evidence, it must be submitted to a Case. Each (piece of) Evidence must be an example of one and only one Evidence Type, such as “Document” or “Image”.

In addition, both Activities and Cases are managed in terms of their status. That is, each Case may be in one or more Case Stati in the course of its life. Similarly, each Activity may be in one or more Activity Stati. Each Case Status or Activity Status must be an example of one Status Type.
