As mentioned earlier, the possible catalogue of different kinds of Instruments can be quite extensive. Even so, they all come down to the three main categories shown in Figure 20-2: Loan, Deposit, and Equity. (There are Other Instrument categories, but these typically are combinations of the main three.) Of particular interest here are three primary sub-types of Deposit: the Checking Account, the Savings Account, and the Brokerage Account. As all should know, the Savings Account and Checking Account are arrangements whereby the bank holds the customer’s money safely.
