Acidizing
A conventional well stimulation technique used to increase the flow of oil and gas from a well.
Acute
Exposure occurring over a short duration (compare with chronic).
Additive effect
A combined biological response to exposure of several substances that equals the sum of responses of all individual substances added together (compare with antagonistic effect and synergistic effect).
Adverse health effect
A condition that might lead to disease or health problems.
Aerobic
A process or condition requiring oxygen (compare with anaerobic).
Airborne
Particulates which are trapped by mucous membranes can migrate into the digestive tract, thus being ingested.
Ambient
Surrounding an area, as in ambient air.
Anaerobic
A process or condition requiring the absence of oxygen (compare with aerobic).
Analyte
A substance measured in an analytical laboratory.
Annular valve
A valve on the aboveground well that is connected to the space between the tubing and the casing.
Annuli pressure
In a well, also called a wellbore, the annuli pressure is the pressure between the tubing and casing.
Annulus
The space around a pipe in a wellbore, sometimes termed the annular space.
