What to Leave at Home
What you leave at home is just as important as what you bring with you. These are some items I choose not to bring with me on location so that I can focus on what really matters—capturing great environmental photographs.
• Lights. I bring my speedlights, but I leave my larger power pack and strobes at my home office and only bring them when it is absolutely necessary. Not only do they take up a lot of room and are tough to carry, but when I’m out in the field, it can be difficult to find power in just the right spot.
• Stands. An added bonus of not using big strobes is that I don’t need big stands.
• Backgrounds. There are occasions where the job calls for an artificial background, but I prefer to use what is available ...
