Employing the Environment

An environmental portrait doesn’t just involve photographing your subject next to the trees outside an office or workplace. The entire environment in your subject’s world as it pertains to the story you will tell is at your fingertips to use in the photo. Elements such as the white puffy clouds, the narrow and winding staircase, the never-ending hallway, the guitar behind the desk, or the purple walls in the cafeteria are there for you to use to make interesting portraits that are unique to each subject you photograph.
