Spintronics

An application of complex metal oxides

Abstract

The research field of complex metal oxides has both benefited from, and spurred forward, the field of spintronics since the latter's inception in the late 1980s. This chapter frames this synergy in terms of the two overarching challenges for spintronics: (1) attaining an ideal spin-polarized current source and (2) developing spintronic devices with additional degrees of freedom such as electrical addressing, that is, multifunctional devices.
