A Case of Infidelity
Bert has been my patient for 6 years. He was referred to me by the marital therapist treating him and his wife. Initially, I saw Bert face-to-face twice weekly for 3 months, until he was able to arrange his schedule for more intensive psychoanalysis three to four times per week. The frequency of his sessions is an ongoing issue.
Bert is a charming, short, well-built 56-year-old man who came to therapy longing for “intense passion.” He had three extramarital affairs and abused alcohol when with these women. Married, the father of three, owner of a commercial photography firm, he was referred to me having had other therapeutic experiences. Looking back, I may have felt I could do a better job ...
