Chapter 3. Computer Monitors and Graphics Systems

There wouldn't be much point in all the work the computer does if the user didn't have some easy way to read or see it. Displays do that job. There are two essential types of displays—monitors and printers. While the two look very different, the technology used inside the computer to create images for both types of devices, contained in the graphics system, is very similar. This chapter will provide only a brief mention of printers, and will focus instead on monitors (monitor and display are often used interchangeably) and especially on the development of the supporting graphics systems. By the end of this chapter, you should be familiar with

  • How a computer image is made

  • Monitor technologies
