The Structure of Graphics Systems
It's difficult to determine where to begin in describing the operation of computer graphics. Is it best to start by talking about what the system does, or how it works? The choice here is to first consider the kinds of images that graphics systems make, then review the underlying technology. The first item, then, is to describe the two different ways of creating computer graphics—bitmaps and vectors. Since both of these approaches are in widespread use, a careful description of each is warranted.
