All software elements on a HAVi-based home network can in principle send messages and events to each other without any restriction. However, to prevent applications from sending, whether accidentally or deliberately, messages or events to system components that were intended to be used only by other system components, a protection mechanism is needed. HAVi specifies, for each defined HAVi message and event, the kinds of software element that are allowed to use it.
