Serial: Set up is easy; external; slowest
Parallel: Set up is easy; external; slow
IDE. Set up is moderately difficult. For internal devices and short cables. Requires opening your PC and connecting some cables inside. Performance is much better than parallel or serial interface, or USB-devices and FireWire devices. Supports two devices per channel only.
PC Card: Set up is easy. Good performance. Typically used for laptop computers and other mobile information devices.
USB: Set up is very easy. Good performer. Hot-swappable. Requires Windows 98 and higher. Multiple devices (up to 127).
