The Importance of Texture Size

When generating maps of any type, it is very important that the map is the correct size. If it is much larger than is needed we are wasting resources, and if it is not large enough we won’t get the quality that we need at render time. So to a large degree it is a balancing act. If the model you are working on is for a game, the map requirements for the game engine will determine the size of the texture or map. If you are working on a personal project or a model for a film, you may have a lot more leeway.
