The United Nations (UN) is the highest level of world governance. It has raised awareness of sustainability through a series of conferences and events over the past three decades. The UN’s current position on sustainability is defined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These targets are used by governments to gauge progress and are reviewed on a regular basis. Other organisations have also made use of them, including global corporations.
