How Will You Motivate Participants?

Low response rates to surveys and other data gathering efforts can endanger accuracy or credibility of the results. Repeated reminders to “Please fill in your survey form” can seem like nagging and can generate negative attitudes that remain long after the evaluation process.

The best way to motivate participants is early in the process. By explainingthe evaluation and its importance, you can prepare participants to play their roles in the process. For example, figure 11-3 shows an email message sent to the supervisors of learners selected for taking an experimental training program.
