Chapter 3. Design for data access and protection

Today, some data is stored on-premises and some data is stored in the cloud. Storing data in the cloud, especially in bulk, is a new strategy that is expected to continue to grow. Some organizations, especially smaller organizations, store all of their data in the cloud. Other organizations are still storing all of their data on-premises. No matter where your data is stored, you need to have sensible data protection solutions in place to ensure that your data is safe from unauthorized access and protected in the event of a theft. Additionally, you need to know who has accessed files or attempted to access files that they do not have permission to access.
