Chapter 3
Implement and manage data models
The previous chapter reviewed the skills necessary to connect to data sources and transform data using Power Query Editor—the process also known as data shaping.
This chapter covers data modeling skills. In Power BI, a data model is a collection of one or more tables connected by relationships. Apart from the M language, which is used for data shaping, Power BI uses DAX, which is its native formula and query language. Power BI possesses rich data modeling capabilities, which includes creating relationships as well as enriching a data model with hierarchies, measures, calculated columns, calculated tables, and calculation groups.
