We are not lawyers. Nor do we play lawyers on TV. Sometimes we talk to lawyers when we do expert witness work, but that’s only when we’re being paid lots of money. Suffice it to say that the opinions in this chapter should not be taken as legal advice of any kind. If you want a legal opinion, don’t ask a geek!
Regardless of all that, the world of online games is filled with lawyers these days. That’s because MMORPG distributors have two weapons they can use against cheaters: making rules with legal documents and enforcing rules with technology. The first weapon involves lots of lawyers.
