The steps toward architecture for me began at a very early age. Perhaps it sounds like an exaggeration, but I think it all started in the sandbox, a place where I spent a considerable amount of time as a toddler. I graduated to other childhood obsessions such as Lego. Later I would learn that was very common with architects of my generation. Making forms and spaces, arranging objects, and drawing are some of the foundational activities that filled my childhood and, undoubtedly, had an impact on my career decisions.

My "serious" interest in becoming an architect probably started around age 12. My parents enjoyed traveling, and so with them I was fortunate to see a lot of cities and buildings as a young person. ...
