92 Exploring Storage Management Efficiencies and Provisioning
4.1 Installation and configuration procedures
Follow the installation procedures for each of the components of IBM
TotalStorage Productivity Center as they are described in the appropriate
installation guides. The LaunchPad is installed automatically during the IBM
TotalStorage Multiple Device Manager installation. This section describes some
specific considerations when you install the components as part of the IBM
TotalStorage Productivity Center suite.
You will need to specify additional ports for use by IBM TotalStorage Multiple
Device Manager and IBM Tivoli SAN Manager for WebSphere Application Server
and SNMP. In addition, you may want to configure IBM Director to send SNMP
events to go to the NetView and to configure IBM Tivoli SAN Manager to receive
these SNMP events.
Install IBM Multiple Device Manager, IBM Tivoli SAN Manager, and IBM Tivoli
Storage Resource Manager on the same machine, and install IBM Tivoli
Provisioning Manager on a separate machine. IBM TotalStorage Multiple Device
Manager and IBM Tivoli SAN Manager each requires its own version of the
WebSphere. However, they can share a single instance of DB2 Version 8.1,
which is shipped with IBM TotalStorage Multiple Device Manager.
Earlier versions of IBM Tivoli SAN Manager and IBM Tivoli Storage Resource
Manager agents can communicate with IBM Tivoli SAN Manager Version 1.3.1
and IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Version 1.3.2 managers. In addition,
earlier versions of IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager agents are
automatically upgraded to the new release the first time they contact a Version
1.3.2 manager.
The installed version of IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager should be 2.1.0 with
Fix Pack 2.1.0.0-TIV-TPM-IF0001.
This section describes some specific considerations when you install the
components as part of the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center suite. Install
IBM Multiple Device Manager, Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, and Tivoli
Storage Resource Manager on the same machine. Install IBM Tivoli Provisioning
Manager on a separate machine.
4.1.1 Migration
If you have already installed a previous version of a component, you can
upgrade it for use with TotalStorage Productivity Center Version 1.2. For detailed
upgrade instructions, see the installation documentation for each component.
Chapter 4. Installation overview 93
Here are the considerations involved:
򐂰 IBM TotalStorage Multiple Device Manager 1.0 can be upgraded as a
standard PTF to Version 1.1.1 Service Pack1.
򐂰 IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Version 1.2.x, 1.3.0, or 1.3.1 can be
upgraded to Version 1.3.2 as a maintenance upgrade.
IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Version 1.x must first be upgraded to
Version 1.2.x and then upgraded to Version 1.3.2.
IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Version l, 1.2.x, or 1.3.x agents are
automatically upgraded when they first contact a Version 1.3.2 server.
򐂰 IBM Tivoli SAN Manager Version 1.2.x or 1.3.0 installation can be upgraded
as a maintenance upgrade to Version 1.3.1.
IBM Tivoli SAN Manager Version 1.x must be uninstalled before installing
Version 1.3.1.
4.1.2 Installing the components
To track your progress while installing and setting up the IBM TotalStorage
Productivity Center components, you might want to use the following checklist.
The following installations are done on a single machine:
1. If you have DB2 Version 8.1 with FixPak 4a installed, go to step 3 later in this
section. To check for the current level of DB2, run the db2level command.
2. If you do not have DB2 Version 8.1 with FixPak 4a installed, do these steps:
a. Install DB2 Version 8.1 if necessary.
b. Stop DB2 and all related processes.
c. Download FixPak 4a from this Web site:
http://www-306.ibm.com/cgi-bin/db2www/data/db2/udb/winos2unix/support/
v8fphist.d2w/report
d. Install FixPak 4a and follow any prompt to reboot. If you do not reboot,
start DB2.3.
3. Install Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager Version 1.3.1. For instructions,
see IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager Planning and Installation
Guide.
Note: IBM Multiple Device Manager and Tivoli Storage Area Network
Manager each requires its own version of WebSphere Application Server. IBM
Multiple Device Manager, Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, and Tivoli
Storage Resource Manager can share a single instance of DB2 Version 8.1.
