9.1 Marginal Dose–response relationships
We rev isit Dose–response relationships when they are dependent on observed
or unobserved factors. These factors may affect the dose–exposure or expo sure
relationships or both. Often we are interested in the ma rginal relationship,
i.e., the average relationship in a population with a mixture of these factors.
For example, to select a dose for a clinical trial to demonstrate a significant
treatment effect compared w ith placebo , the statistical inference is based on
