Introduction

Section 1 explained the reasons for an extension of time clause and some of the basic principles. The JCT forms (apart from MW2005) set out in some detail the procedure for the contractor in relation to delay and extension of time, and it is important for both contractor and architect to follow this procedure closely. If they do not do so, it could be much more difficult to decide what is the proper extension of time to be awarded (if any).
