Introduction to Facilities Management

What do facilities managers have to manage? They have to manage all the activities that go on in a building or facility. The definition of facility is important too. In this book, the facility includes the actual buildings and all the surrounding land, lawns, trees and landscaping, parking lots, driveways, and any other improvements.

Buildings are defined by the activity of the users, as seen in Table 1.1. Many of the ideas can be applied to all buildings and facilities from the largest airports to the smallest rental units. The difference is a matter of degree.
